Psychological Science Fair

Recently, our undergraduate research assistants presented a poster at Rice University’s very first Psychological Science Fair. At this event, various student groups presented work from their classes and extracurricular activities in interactive and informative formats.

We are so proud of our RAs, two of whom presented a research poster for the very first time in their academic career!

March, 2026

SBSM 2026 Annual Meeting

In March of 2026, Dr. Standen and Lorena presented SWEL research at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine’(formerly American Psychosomatic Society) in Chicago, IL!

Dr. Standen gave an insightful talk on findings from an intervention she conducted during her postdoctoral training with Dr. Sean Phelan at Mayo Clinic. This intervention aimed to reduce weight stigma related attitudes, beliefs and practices in medical providers.

Lorena presented a poster on the importance of taking intersectional approaches to understanding how different identities influence people’s experiences in healthcare.

IHRI Seed Grant Award

Dr. Standen awarded a Faculty Seed Grant from Rice University’s Institute of Health Resilience and Innovation! The IHRI Faculty Seed Grants Program supports Rice faculty in launching innovative, interdisciplinary health research. The purpose of this grant program is to help move promising projects toward future funding and real-world impact in health resilience.

Social Science Research Relay
